Poker Night at Starlight for First-Timers
A first poker night can feel like walking into someone else's card game. It helps to know the room before you get there.
This page covers the poker room at Starlight Casino in Queensborough and when it runs. It ends with a short list of things to settle before the first hand.
A Seven-Table Room Off the Floor
Starlight has a seven-table poker room off the main floor. From Sunday to Thursday, poker runs from 11AM until late. On Friday and Saturday, the room stays open 24 hours. The casino itself never closes, but the poker room keeps its own schedule.
Poker works differently from the other tables. At blackjack or roulette, you play against the house, through the dealer. Here, you play against the other people seated with you. The dealer runs the game and handles the cards, but does not play a hand.
Before Your First Session
- Call the casino before you go and ask which games are running. This guide does not list them.
- Decide your buy-in limit at home. A buy-in is the money you bring to the table to start playing. Pick the number before you leave, and keep to it.
- Ask how the waiting list works. When every seat is taken, poker rooms usually keep a list of names, so ask how this one handles it.
- Bring government photo ID and expect to show it. The legal age for gambling in British Columbia is 19.
- Plan your end time. The casino is open 24 hours, so no closing bell will send you home. Set a time and leave when it comes.
